TripSplit — Android application (kb.tripsplit)
Effective date: 9 September 2026
This policy explains what information the TripSplit app collects, how it is used,
and the choices you have. It applies when you use TripSplit on your device and use
the optional cloud features.
1. What we collect
Google account information — only if you choose to sign in for
cloud sharing. We receive your name, email address, and profile picture from your
Google account so other trip members can recognise you.
Trip data you enter — trips, expenses, members, settlement
records, and group codes. On this device this data is stored locally. If you enable
cloud sharing, it is stored in Google Firebase/Firestore and synced to the other
devices of members you invite.
Basic diagnostics — standard anonymous crash/performance data
may be collected by Google Play services.
We do not collect precise location, contacts, photos, or messages.
The app has no advertising and no third-party trackers.
2. How we use information
To provide the features you ask for — syncing trips across devices and
identifying members.
To keep the app working correctly and to fix crashes.
We never sell or rent your data, and we do not use it for advertising.
3. Where it is stored and shared
Cloud-synced trip data is stored with Google Firebase (a Google
service) in secure data centres. It can be read by the other members of the same trip
who have the trip's group code — that is the purpose of the cloud feature. Google Play
handles any optional donations you make; we do not receive your card details.
4. Your choices and deletion
You can use TripSplit entirely offline/locally without signing
in; nothing leaves your device.
Removing sync: delete the account's cloud copies by signing out and removing the
trip.
You can uninstall the app to remove local data. To delete data stored in our
Firestore database, delete each synced trip from within the app (this also removes
it for other members) — or contact us below and we will delete it for you.
You can manage or remove the app's access to your Google account at
myaccount.google.com.
5. Children
TripSplit is not directed to children under 13 and does not knowingly collect
personal information from them. Trip data is not suitable for sensitive personal data.
6. Changes
If we change this policy, the new version will be posted at this address with a new
effective date.
